If you’ve been following us, you may have noticed that we haven’t been writing for about a week! 😁 People had warned us this would happen, but we won’t give in! We spent the morning catching up on writing, digging into our short term memory and figuring how the heck we spent our time in Athens.
Our reward was ocean swimming. Bryan researched Ammoudi Bay, a small inlet of calm water around Oia, the largest town near us. He figured out we could have lunch there first, at Dimitris Ammoudi Taverna, a taverna owned by an expat from Vancouver. We feasted on Santorini Salad - served with pickled caper leaves 😍, daily catch of grilled Gilthead bream, and baba ganoush. The view added a few dollars to everything on the menu, and though we hated it, have to admit that it was worth it.
Our ocean swimming spot was insane. People were swimming, sunning, and jumping off a small cliff into the water. The water was perfect. The jump was thrilling. We always get a little freaked out this kind of stuff, but after watching a few people do it, we had the courage to do it ourselves.
Dinner was at Theoni’s Kitchen in Fira, the next biggest town over. Yennie wanted saucy pasta (like she always does), so we ordered frutti de mare that didn’t disappoint. The restaurant was full of tourists and locals alike, with some tour guides ending their long day with cigarettes and Mythos beers. Our dinner soundtrack was a “Best of” Greek music, which was cheesy and annoyingly catchy. The Frenchmen next to us even took to stomping their feet and singing along as they waited for their food. Opa!
