Thé à la menthe
Mint Tea. Mint! Tea!
Pâtisserie Amendine, 177 Rue Mohammed Al Béqal, Gueliz

We checked into Dar Touyir, a B&B owned by a Belgian man named Robert. And then promptly sought out some mint tea. Mint tea is a thing here. In the US, it’s the orphan in the tea sampler at a work conference. But in Morocco, it’s what you drink - fragrant and sweet and precious AF. We had our first mint tea at Patisserie Amendine, a chic, up-scale bakery in the Nouvelle Ville neighborhood of Gueliz. Everything is made with almonds, marzipan, orange blossom, and rose water. 😍
We wanted to ease into exploring the medina, as we were warned by the B&B manager that people will offer help with directions and then ask you to pay them for it. We spent the rest of the afternoon getting our bearings as best we could, triangulating information from the apparently inaccurate Google Maps and surprisingly correct printed map from Dar Touyir. We used TripAdvisor to find a highly-rated restaurant in the medina and were pleasantly surprised by a non-stop channel of music videos. Yennie squealed when “Formation” came on with Arabic subtitles - proof that Béyonce is irrefutably “Queen Bey.”
